MEC condemns violence against women and children

The MEC for Social Development, Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Mosetsanagape Mokomele-Mothibi said violence against women and children is a heinous act that may lead to death.
The MEC made this statement during the launch of 16 Days of Activism of No Violence against Women and Children held in Khuma last week. Mokomele-Mothibi said it is often reported in the media that young girls are being raped by older men and others are gang-raped by heartless perpetrators they know and live with.

Alabama deadline looms
Illegal occupants given until early next year to vacate houses

People who are illegally occupying houses at Extension 3 in Alabama have been given until 10 January next year to voluntarily vacate the premises by the municipality.
The occupants have been slapped with notices of vacation following judgement passed by the court earlier this year.

Task team to probe toilet disaster

The chairperson of the Ministerial Task Team,  Advocate Nomazotsho Memane, said her team  will investigate the construction of 64 toilets units build at Extension 5 in Tigane township during the 2006/07 financial year. Memane and other members of the team, established by the Minister of Human Settlement, Tokyo Sexwale, visited the township on Tuesday.

Council to review its employment policy

The City of Matlosana’s employment policy will soon be reviewed. This sentiment was echoed by the Executive Mayor of the city, Michael Kagiso Khauoe during an imbizo held at Stilfontein last week. Khauoe said it’s about time qualified people are employed by the municipality. He maintained that opportunities must be opened to all and that the municipality must employ people across the colour line.

The Department of Water Affairs has finally allayed fears of local residents by awarding the City of Matlosana the Blue Drop certificate during the 3rd Municipal quality conference held in Cape Town from 27 June to 1 July 2011.
